RECURRENT MISCARRIAGES ARE ON THE RISE

At least two per cent women in reproductive age in world have recurrent miscarriages and the trend is on the rise as more working women defer their pregnancy from age group of 20s to late 30s, a senior gynaecologist from Israel, Prof Howard Carp said on Sunday.

He was speaking at the three-day national conference on ‘Controversies in infertility’ which began on Friday.

“Miscarriage is defined as the loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks of gestation. Recurrent miscarriage, or habitual pregnancy loss, is defined as three or more consecutive, spontaneous pregnancy losses,” Carp said. Possible causes of recurring miscarriages include genetic defect, abnormally shaped uterus, uterine fibroids, scar tissue, hormonal imbalances and illness.
